2-21-2025 Superintendent Weekly Update

Dear D51 Families and Colleagues,

There are only 55 school days until our first high school graduation of 2025 and just over 60 days until the school year wraps up! The year is definitely flying by. Let’s take a moment to celebrate the great work we’ve all done so far and the amazing things happening across our district!

I was able to attend the Student of the Quarter Luncheon this week. I love this opportunity to celebrate our students because it involves teachers and staff bragging about their students in front of proud family members, and it involves our Engaged & Supportive Community Partners at Colorado Mesa University & Alpine Bank who provide $500 scholarships to each of the students! You can read more about it below. I was also able to make it out to Independence Academy Charter School to watch students present their National History Day projects! The students did a great job! Shoutout to Mr. Stanfield and the IACS teachers and staff for a great event! I also had fun cheering on our CHS and PHS girls and boys basketball teams as they faced off last night. Be sure to catch the basketball action tonight at both GJHS and FMHS!

I also want to highlight the incredible accomplishments of all of our student athletes who competed at State last week. It was great seeing the results come in. I want to give a HUGE shoutout to our D51 Phoenix girls wrestling team! Their hard work, dedication, and perseverance paid off in a big way at the state competition where they brought home a well-deserved STATE CHAMPIONSHIP! These girls have worked so hard all season, and this victory is a testament to the strength and resilience of our student-athletes. Also, shout out to their dedicated coaches, families, and school communities for all the support and encouragement. And shoutout to Fruita Monument High School’s Tatum Williams for bringing home an individual wrestling STATE CHAMPIONSHIP as well! What a great story, and way to represent FMHS and D51. You can read more about our student athletes who made All-Conference Teams below, too.
